Why people go looking for one
WaveNote's breadth is the draw and the drawback. Its own Chrome Web Store card discloses collecting personally identifiable information, authentication information, personal communications, user activity, and website content. That's a normal disclosure for a product with messaging and sync, but it is a lot of data category for someone who just wants to react to pages.
The extension is also closed source, with no public repository linked from the store card, and the social surface (notifications, messages, follows) turns browsing into another feed to keep up with. Those three things are what usually send people here.
What you get instead
A much smaller data story
Aggregate counts do require a server, and we document exactly what it sees: an irreversible email hash for your account and the public target you reacted to. No personal communications, no user-activity feed, no website content — the privacy policy spells it out.
Counts as the product, not a side effect
The count is the whole product, so it gets the attention: one account per person, one reaction per target, and a public log anyone can recompute.
Code you can read before you trust it
Any extension that draws UI inside your logged-in pages deserves scrutiny. Web Reactions is GPL-3 with the extension source public on GitHub.
Switching takes about a minute
Install the extension and react — a one-time email code on your first reaction is the only setup. There's no profile to fill in, no contacts to import, and nothing to migrate.
Is it the right alternative for you?
Choose Web Reactions if you want the reaction part of a social layer without the messenger part, and you prefer a narrower data disclosure with public source code.
Stay with WaveNote if you genuinely use the full stack — page conversations, direct messages, media, and sync are its actual product.
